you believe that we’re just a few months away from the
conclusion of another year? As you look outside your windows
you can see the seasons change right before your eyes. The
leaves are on a colorful display as they fall from the trees,
which are truly a significant expression of the time of year
we’ve entered into-Fall.
and pine cones are collected to be placed on your dining room
tables along with the pumpkins and lanterns. So many other
items too that will be used to decorate your home as you
prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving. Oh… the freshness that
you feel and the excitement you sense in the air.
you’re like me you’ve already prepared a shopping list and
invited your family over for a Thanksgiving dinner. I’m
filled with such a longing and joy to see them again. I’m in
great anticipation for this day to arrive because we gather
together celebrating. We’ll reminisce about the previous
Thanksgiving Days and everything that has happened in between.
yes, we have so much to talk about and to share.
The food will be great.
The fellowship will be informative and fun, but then
for my family there is one thing we faithfully do before
enjoying the festivities: We attend church to worship God and
to say “Thank You” to our Lord and Savior Jesus.
are so grateful for all He has done. We wake up every day
giving Him thanks, but on Thanksgiving Day it’s different.
It’s like a Memorial Day as we intensely reflect on
the goodness of Jesus. We
also plan to do something special, but we’ll talk about that
a little later.
now, I’m going to challenge you to pause for a moment and
really think about this:
How do you begin Thanksgiving Day?
Do you begin it with going to church and corporately
worshipping the God of all creation? Do you daily rise up with a sincere praise in your heart and
a song of worship coming from your lips?
was the last time you screamed out with a voice to God saying
“THANK YOU LORD for ALL YOU’VE DONE FOR ME?”
Oh, we have no problem shouting and screaming for our
favorite football, baseball or basketball teams.
Heck, we’ll even shout down at the rodeo and at a
concert hall, but when we talk about shouting and screaming
for Jesus, some people get that funny look on their face.
Yep, that look that's on your friend’s face right
I’m going to bring it home to ya~
would you feel if your child or spouse didn’t take the time
to say thank you when you’d made provisions for them?
What if you brought your child a toy or bike that
he’s been wanting for a long time?
You even saved your money just to buy this item and the
accessories that go along with it because it was so costly.
Once you presented it to him, though, all you got was a
happy face grin, but he went back to the store, found the
clerk who sold the item to you and gave him a great big hug.
Then he jumped up and down screaming out, “Thank you
sooooo much! You’re the best! You’re the greatest!
There’s none like you!”
imagine taking your spouse out for a night on the town. First,
it’s dinner, then off to the movies, and then before you
head back home you take her for a moonlight walk on the beach.
She gives you a warm smile but then graciously tells
the waiter “Thank you so much.
The food was outstanding.
You did a great job in taking care of me tonight!”
Then she tells the guy who sold you the movie tickets
“Thank you for your service and I'm really looking
forward to having a great evening because of you!!” But she
said nothing to you. The only thing you got from her was a
smile. How would
these things make you feel?
Furious and unappreciated I’m sure.
when we choose not to give the Father thanksgiving for all
He’s done for us, it breaks His heart.
It is the Father who has protected you all year long.
He’s the One that has blessed you to live in that
beautiful house. He’s
blessed the fruit of your womb with His reward, and they are
indeed blessed. He’s
blessed you to have a loving family and allowed you to work to
provide for your family.
The Lord has blessed you with health, life and
forget the fact that the Lord is your full-time bodyguard and
security system. Remember
that car accident you almost had?
What about the time you got on that airplane, and there
was quite a bit of turbulence and it felt like the plane was
going to crash?
had His angels encamped around you.
They’re with you all the time; when you're crossing
the street and when you walk into your office building.
Count your blessings and thank God for them.
Yes indeed, you and I need to count our blessings and
try to name them one by one; you can’t because there’s way
too many of them.
on think about it, whether or not you have everything you
think you want, God has blessed you.
My dear friend the Father deserves to be appreciated.
He deserves to be honored every day and especially on
Thanksgiving. Plan to do something different by first of all
incorporating a time of worship and thanksgiving in your life.
Set aside time every day to give Him thanks and to
bless His Holy name.
as you celebrate, why not gather your family and friends
together and honor those who have transitioned from this life
to enteral life. . Celebrate the history that they imparted
into your life. Celebrate
the assurance of their commitment to Christ, and since you
made that same commitment, you will embrace them once again in
them by honoring the legacy which they have left.
It’s not honorable to be sad and depressed; that is
not how they want to be remembered.
if you really want to do something special to honor someone
and their beliefs, celebrate someone you don’t know.
That’s right! Celebrate
someone you don’t know so well and get to know them.
How do I do that you ask?
Take a co-worker to lunch -- someone you don’t know
very well yet although you work with them every day.
invite that person you see sitting by themselves at their desk
every day to go out with you to grab a cup of coffee.
Another thing you can do is give a restaurant gift card
like Denny’s, Applebee’s or Chili’s to a complete
them with your random act of kindness.
I guarantee that it will kindle a fire of gratitude
deep within their heart.
random acts of kindness you chose to do, please take the time
to present that person a hand-written note that simply says,
“I celebrate you because God loves you.
So I want to say thank you for being the Sunshine in my
life today. Love…
(Sign your name).”
I promise you will touch their life.
You’ll leave a lasting impression of the heart of God
and you will bring peace and joy to the receiver; they may
even ask the, “Why are you so generous and kind?” That
will open the door for you to share the love of Jesus with
just in case they decline your invitation, please don’t
allow yourself to get discouraged or take offense.
Remember this is just another way for you to honor your
love ones who are in heaven now, and to show your gratefulness
all make a change now and not wait for the New Year to come
in. Your New Year
can start right now. I
don’t know about you, but I’d rather be the one blazing a
trail than to be a trail blazer.
When you blaze a trail, you’re creating and paving a
new way- a new road, a new, but if you're gonna be a trail ,
doggone it, then you’re just following a path that's been
there all along. Sometimes that's good enough, but I’m
trying to tell you that you’re better than that.
Come on, you can do it!
And that’s all I've got to say about that!
from my heart to yours I want to say “I celebrate you and
I’m so thankful that you’re the sunshine in my life today!
