SHARON JOYNER
& The Jesus Project

Me & JESUS
By Sharon Leighton Joyner

     I came in today and realized I had better get busy and send in my monthly article or I will be in big trouble with the ‘boss.’  Micki called me a week ago and said, “Don’t forget, your article has to be in by the 5th of May!”  So, here goes with my Schedule:

·       Open Mic at The Neighborhood Cup on the 5th and the 26th.  The 5th was packed with LOTS of talent.  The 26th was slow, but the talent was great…We have lots of that.  As you probably know the 26th George Jones went to be with the Lord.  So Rick Paul did a George Jones song (one I’d never heard before.)  I did “The Race Is On,” "Lightnin," and "Walk Through This World With Me.”  Later on I did one of my gospel songs.  No one else did George Jones songs because ‘believe it or not’ they didn’t know who he was.  That’s California for ya…!

·       I led worship at my church (Church In The Park) on the 7th, 14th and 21st.

·       April 11th Marvin and I were thrilled to spend the evening with John Leighton’s brother, Chuck, his son and his wife and his daughter Barbara and some of her family from Minnesota.  Tony and Sharon Leighton live here in California (Hesperia) so I am looking forward to seeing them more often.

·       April 12th was my birthday and we had dinner with friends and family at Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ.  My ‘sis’ Vivian and my grandson Jon both called in sick at the last moment but our pastor, Fred Elsasser, and our other friends:  Neil & Cinda Slate, Keith and Chona Sharp, associate pastor Armando Gora and his wife Silvia and my grandson Brice were in attendance.  We all ate like pigs…!  And still took a bunch home.  If you are in Lake Forest, CA…I highly recommend Lucille’s.

·       April 13th…we CRASHED!

·       April 19th I performed at a concert with ‘Ben and Friends’ at Sugar Pie’s Coffee House Bakery (our second concert there).  It is a small place but it was wall to wall people and the talent was amazing.  It consisted of Mo and Chuck who do Southern Gospel, Coto Creek who do all kinds of music, The Garage Band who do Beach Boys and Beatles and several other kinds of music, Jeremiah James, a songwriter/singer who does contemporary music, Ben Givens who does 70s music and me…Of course I did my own gospel music and one country song that I wrote called, “Don’t Go Away Mad, Just Go Away!”  It is a favorite everywhere I do it.

·       April 28th I did a hoedown for a wedding reception in Bonsall, CA.  The couple were married in Austin, TX in March and the bride’s mom had a reception for them here.  They showed a video of the wedding…it was beautiful.  They live in the Austin area.

·       This week we have had something going on every day at work and every night, too.  I missed a few days of work this month due to a sinus infection.  But I am feeling better.

     The one thing I am grateful for is that no matter what happens, whether I’m sick, busy, or not busy…God is with me every step of the way.  He has promised that He will never leave me or forsake me…!!! Yay!

The JESUS Film Project®

     New JESUS Film Media Site is Live! We are so excited to share with you the launch of www.jesusfilmmedia.org promo site! On this promo site you will find a little more information about what is coming soon with JESUS Film Media! The purpose of the site is to share some vision for what will be coming and how people will be able to use the entire catalog of Jesus Film tools online.

     New: The Paul Project!  This is what we are currently working on here at The JESUS Film Project®.  I don’t know all the details yet, but I think it will be a film on the life of Paul, the Apostle.  As I learn more, I will pass it on to you.  I’m excited about this and if you are prompted to support this ministry, the two things we need funding for the most are this project and Mission 865 translations.  If you want to know more about these things, feel free to call me at (800)387-4040 Monday – Thursday.  Oh, except I will be out of the office May 23rd through June 2nd.

     Speaking of languages, we currently have completed 1,195 languages.  And if you have downloaded our APP (which you can get at www.jesusfilm.org) you will be able to see the film in a lot of the most used languages for JESUS, Magdalena, The Story of Jesus For Children and several short films right on your smart phone, Ipad, Notebook, Android, etc.  If you are gifted in evangelism, these are great tools to use as you travel.

     I could actually fill up this whole page with ‘stuff’.  One thing I learned from a missionary visiting our office is something I will never forget.  In spite of knowing these things, these amazing men who work in the field showing JESUS and other of our films, they still continue in their work.  This thing I learned is not pleasant, but it is true:  11 people are martyred for doing this work every minute of every day.

See you next month…

       THE OLD PATHS

I liked the old paths, when . . . . .

 Moms were at home.
 Dads were at work.
 Brothers went into the army.
 And sisters got married BEFORE
   having children!

 Crime did not pay;
 Hard work did;
 And people knew the difference.

 Moms could cook;
 Dads would work;
 Children would behave.

 Husbands were loving;
 Wives were supportive;
 And children were polite.

 Women wore the jewelry;
 And Men wore the pants.
 Women looked like ladies;
 Men looked like gentlemen;
 And children looked decent.

 People loved the truth,
 And hated a lie;
 They came to church to get IN,
   Not to get OUT!

 Hymns sounded Godly;
 Sermons sounded helpful;
 Rejoicing sounded normal;
 And crying sounded sincere.

 Cursing was wicked;
 Drugs were for illness;
 And divorce was unthinkable.

 The flag was honored;
 America was beautiful;
 And God was welcome!

 We read the Bible in public;
 Prayed in school;
 And preached from house to house
 To be called an American was worth
   dying for;
 To be called a Christian was worth
   living for;
 To be called a traitor was a shame!

 Preachers preached because they had
   a message;
 And Christians rejoiced because they
   had the VICTORY!
 Preachers preached from the Bible;
 Singers sang from the heart;
 And sinners turned to the Lord to be
   SAVED!

 A  new birth meant a new life;
 Salvation meant a changed life;
 Following Christ led to eternal life.

 Being a preacher meant you
   proclaimed the word of God;
 Being a deacon meant you would
   serve the Lord;
 Being a Christian meant you would
   live for Jesus;
 And being a sinner meant someone
   was praying for you!

 Laws were based on the Bible;
 Homes read the Bible;
 And churches taught the Bible.

 God was worshiped;
 Christ was exalted;
 And the Holy Spirit was respected..

 Church was where you found
   Christians on the Lord's day, rather
   than in the garden, on the creek bank,
   on the golf course, or being
   entertained somewhere else.

  I still like the old paths the best!
