  A "Worth"while Word

Suffering for Christ. Is it                                  Scriptural? YES!!!

             by Jonathan WORTH Cresswell

1 Peter 4:16, “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed ; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”

This is a profound statement.  Suffering as a Christian has been the case since Jesus left this earth the first time.  Jesus told His disciples in John 15:18, “If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”

Jesus is the MOST POPULAR PERSON to those who know the TRUTH, and the MOST UNPOPULAR PERSON according to the world’s standard.  The WORLD HATES JESUS, and because of that we, too, are HATED.  Now that’s not a very nice way to start an article, is it?  But we need to come to grips with all this.  We are not popular, because the One we love and serve, JESUS CHRIST, who is the Overwhelming and Overpowering Light of the World that exposes the Sin of the world, AND HE IS NOT POPULAR with the world.

Guess what!  We should be doing that, too.  Jesus told us to be the world’s Light and Salt.  We can help others come to know Christ and believe and become part of the family of God, or we can drive them away.  We can make the world a little better while we are here by adding a little seasoning, or we can make it tasteless, all by how we react to things.

Make no mistake, I have feet of clay and I stink, just like you.  I am saved only by God’s Grace because I have Faith in what Jesus did on the Cross; His burial; dissension into hell and victorious Resurrection; and ascension to The Father’s right hand.  But I am growing and trying to get better all the time. With enough hard work and effort on my part, I am sure that one day I will be . . . I will be. . . .oh well. . . . I will still have Clay feet and I will still STINK.  It is only through Christ Jesus that I am acceptable to God and to mankind.  It’s the same for you, and for all of us.

This is why it is imperative that we as Christians try to emulate Our Lord.  We must endeavor to be , kind, forgiving, gentle and welcoming.  Too many times we allow petty squabbles and differences of opinion to separate us.  I am just as guilty as you are.  But that doesn’t mean that we should allow that type of attitude to continue.  We MUST be the ones who are different in GOD’s WAY.

So what IS God’s way?  Jesus tells us that in His Sermon On The Mount (also known as the Beatitudes).

Matthew 5:1-16

1  And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2  And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3  Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.     (Cont. below)

                               LOVE

                           Benny Greenlee

Benny’s Bits  - February 2012

I hope this article comes to you at a time that you are walking in His love.  This is suppose to the “season of love” but according to scripture before we ever were, God loved us.

We see so much displaced love that it becomes distorted feelings and not biblical love.  Big difference.  Even while we were yet sinners Jesus died for us.  As you look around you see a lot of loves that are evident.  Love of work, love of material things, love of our children, love of education, love of fun, love of hobbies, and the list goes on.

The purest love according to scripture is when you lay down your life for another.  As I thought about that kind of love, it is different than any of the other loves out there.  Loving another person so-o-o-o much you would die for them. What a thought.

And then there is the love we should show to one another.  Jesus said, “by this love people will know you’re my disciples”.  I wonder how many people REALLY show Jesus in the way they love one another?

Then there is the love God has toward us.  I like what Romans 8 says:

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Romans 8:35

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Romans 8:36

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Romans 8:37

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Romans 8:38

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:39

What a love.  That He would love us so much that He would give His OWN son’s life for all mankind.  The world sees love as a “Valentine” and God sees love as the “Cross.”

Until next time, walk in HIS love. God bless and keep you and may you feel the love of God as never before.

9  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

This is just a small portion of God’s Will and instruction for our lives.  To really enjoy what God has to say, read for yourself what God’s Word says in Matthew 5.

Take heart my fellow sojourners. God is still in control and Jesus IS coming SOON!!

Let us do as Paul said in His final letter to Timothy.

In Timothy 6:6-8, we read

6  For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
7  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing

And finally, in Paul’s letter to the Roman’s we read..

Romans 8: 18-39

18  I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
19  For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
20  For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope
21 that
the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?
25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who
have been called according to his purpose.
29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord

Be of good cheer, my brothers and sisters.  Let us Keep The Faith, Finish the Course, and receive Our Reward.  We are VICTORIOUS over EVERYTHING through Jesus Christ Our Lord . . Hallelujah!!!
